Task description

The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Task answer

The table compares the precentage of national consumer expenditure in food, drink and tobacco, clothing and footwear, and also leisure and entertainment in Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey in 2002. It is clear that food, drinks and tobacco consumer had the largest proportion in most countries with significant gap to other items, especially in Turkey and Ireland. Meanwhile, leisure and education consistently represent the smallest portion across the all five country. In the Turkey, 32.14 % of consumer expenditure was spent on food, drinks and tobacco, the highest among the five countries. Ireland followed closely at almost 29%, while Sweden allocated the smallest proportion at 15.77%. Along with food, drinks and tobacco, Sweden remained reached the lowest expenditure in clothing and footwear among all other countries, at just 5.4%. In other hand, Italy had the highest spending on clothing and footwear, at 9%. Leisure and education consumer reached the smallest percentages in all five countries, with Turkey alloacting the most portion at 4.35 %. The number was slightly higher than Sweden and Italy at 3.2% each. And Spain spent least leisure and education among all of other items in the five countries , just under 2%.
