Task answer
In these days, some students would rather to study other subjects besides their main subjects while the rest prefer to focus on their major at the university. Both of these preferences have own benefits and drawbacks and this essay will discuss these two points with my own thoughts.
Studying not only main subjects but also other important subjects allows students to have broad knowledge and skills which is an advantage in the modern competitive world. Most of the universities provide majors and minors related to this issue. In addition, it is possible that students may find their hidden talent or interests while pursuing other areas of study at university. For example, a law student who takes an English course may realize that he or she is more interested and gifted in language learning and literature.
On the other hand, dedicating all the effort to their chosen areas of study has crucial advantage which is becoming an expert in the field. It is clear that if someone focuses on one thing fully for at least 3 to 4 years, that person will acquire a great amount of knowledge and skills in the field and will create solid foundation for further development. It is stated in one of the best selling self help books, "If someone does something for 10000 hours, he or she will be called an expert of that area.
To conclude, although both studying important subjects besides major subjects and focusing only main subjects have benefits and drawbacks, I, personally, prefer to learn as many subjects as I can since it allows me to become more competitive and broad knowledgeable person.
