Task answer

The presented line chart illustrates the percentage of population residing in cities in 4 Southeast Asian countries over the past 5 decades, together with predictions in the coming 2 decades. The data comes from the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia respectively. All of these countries recorded have a relatively low residency in cities in the 70s, ranging from around 15% to 30%. Data from all 4 countries shows that there was a growing trend in the percentage of city living from then to now. Notably, Malaysia has recorded the most drastic growth among all countries recorded, with roughly 40% increment in population moving to cities. Looking forward to the future, all of these countries recorded are expected to continue with this population migration trend from rural to cities. The city-living growth trend of Malaysia and Indonesia is expected to slow down slightly in the next 20 years. In contrast, the growth is anticipated to be more apparent for Thailand and the Philippines. Overall, urbanisation has been happening since the 70s and is expected to continue increasing in all 4 countries until 2040 according to the shown data.
