Task answer
The graph showed the population living in cities among different Southeast Asian countries, in percentage, including Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Information included from 1970 to 2020, and the predictions of population is also given for 2030 and 2040.
The urban population for these countries has a significant rising trend, while Philippines is the only country which has a slightly drop of populations during 1990 to 2010, comparing to other countries which were always increasing in population. Malaysia has the most average population among these four countries, however Philippines had once overforced Malaysia in 1990. In contrast, Thailand has the least average population among four, lesser than Indonesia.
Malaysia and Indonesia has almost the same rise among these years. Starting from 1970, Malaysia has 30% of urban population and has a significant rise until 75% in 2020. As an prediction, the urban population should be above 80% in 2040 for Malaysia. Comparing Malaysia to Philippines, Philippines has similar trend and urbanization percentage as Malaysia in 1970 to 1990, but it sudden decreased after 1990s and reached 40% urban population in 2010. After the dropped in 2010, the population living in cities slightly increased to 42% and seems to be continuing rising for the next 20 years.
Despite Philippines' drop, the urban population of Indonesia gradually rise since 1970, which was predicted to meet 60% in 2040. Thailand is another country which consistently grow in urban population, which the population is 19% in 1970 and grew to 30% in 2020, and also might go up to 42% in 2040. However, although Thailand has higher urban population than Indonesia during 1970 to 1990, Indonesia acheived a faster grow rate than Thailand since 2000, going up to 50% of urban population in 2020.
