Task answer
The first table gives us information on the number of overseas trip undertaken by UK inhabitants and their motivations from 1994 to 1998. The second one illustrates the geographical locations of the abroad trips in the same 5 years.
Overall, there was a rise in the number of people who crossed the border over the years, with vacations being the most popular cause. The majority of UK residents went to Western Europe or North America.
Concerning the first graph, it is clear that there was an annual increase of more than 1300 per year in the number of overseas journeys, with a peak from 1995 to 1996 when the index went up by more than 3000. The main reasons for these trips were holiday, business and friends and relatives reuniting, all of which witnessed an upward trend in the 5 years recorded. Their popularity remained constant, with vacations being the most preferred, accounting for approximately 70% of all visits. The rest was divided between work and family reunions, approximately contributing to 15% and 13%, respectively.
Switching the focus on the destinations of these trips, Western Europe and North America were the most preferred and observed a continuous rise in the favorability of UK residents annually. The former area accounted for the largest amount of abroad landing, of around 85% and the latter stood second at approximately 6%.
