Task answer
The first line chart illustrates the percentage of families that owned automatic household devices from 1920 to 2019. The second one gives us information about the number of hours per week each family took to do chores in the same years.
Overall, there is a negative correlation between the rising amount of houses with electric machines and the decrease in the time spent on housework over the years.
Regarding the first graph, it is obvious that there was a significant increase in the number of houses possessing automatics. The figure of refrigerator users rocketed from almost 0 in 1920 to 90% in 1960, the fastest rate out of all three devices recorded. In contrast, the vacuum cleaner's accessibility climbed up steadily for six decades at an average speed of 20% per 20 years, rising from 30% initially to 90% in 1980. Uniquely, although the washing machine was the most popular subject recorded in 1920 at 40% possession, it was the only one that was not available to every household in 2019, standing at 75%, and also the singular one to witness a decline in the number of users in 1980 by 7%. The popularity of all three appliances leveled off after 1980.
Switching the focus to the weekly time allocated to housework, a noticeable decrease was seen from 1920 to 1960 at a 15% rate per 20 years, dropping from 50% to 20%. The figure remained relatively constant throughout the remainder of the study, with only a slight decline of 10%. It is clear that the increased utilization of electrical machines correlated negative with the dropped duration for chores.
