The proliferation of plastic pollution in recent times has posed a significant threat on the survival of ocean species and marine habitats. In this essay, I will demonstrate why the governments' implementation on raising plastic production expenditure and the citizens' plastic recycling programs can effectively remedy this issue for the long-term environmental benefits. First and foremost, the governments' financial regulations can play an indispensable role in reducing plastic production and protecting the marine life. Take an illustration of Vietnam, in which the tax aimed for raw materials and plastic merchandises has increased remarkably for 20% in recent years, requiring more money for producing plastic. Consequently, this policy has forced domestic entrepreners to diminish plastic production or raise the prices of the products, making plastic goods become unaffordable or unsuitable for many people. With the mitigation of puchases and sales for these products, less plastic waste would be released into the marine environment, protecting the marine life against plastic products. Furthermore, people's actions can also become a contributor to solve the issue, one of which is numerous plastic recycling programs in the community. It is true that recycling plastic has been prioritised and practised in many countries with different ways, such as recycling unused plastic bottles and boxes into plant vases, or making artworks and clothes from plastic bags. Therefore, these actions have transfered the waste which are planned to be thrown away, into new belongings with new functions. Additionally, with recycle items, less new belongings would be purchased, reducing the overall amount of wastes generated into the marine environment. In conclusion, ocean plastic pollution can be addressed by the engagement of both the authorities and individuals. By reducing the amount of plastic produced, and recycling unused plastic products, human can substantially maintain the stability of the ocean quality and protect marine animals.
