Task answer

The figure shows us how glass and plastic products are recycled. Overall, while the procedures differ after the initial stages, both involve eight steps and begin with consumer usage, followed by collection and transportation to a recycling center. Three stages that plastic and glass recycling have in common are: the usage of new items by consumers, collection of discarded goods after 3 to 8 weeks, and transportation to a recycling center within 5 to 10 days after collection. Then, the two cycles branch. After arriving at the recycling center, used glass products are sorted by color. A machine is used to crush them into fine pieces, which are eventually moved into a tub for washing. The next steps are melting and reshaping in the same order, carried out by two separate machines. That is how new glass bottles are made. In contrast, plastic after having entered the recycling factory is divided into various groups depending on their thickness and quality. The materials then go through bundling, a stage where they are compressed into uniform, rectangular blocks, which are stacked and relayed to a shredder. This shredding machine uses two cogwheels rotating in opposite directions to break the blocks into small pieces. These fragments are then transferred to a washing tub. The last step of melting and reshaping, in contrast to glass recycling, is done by the same machine. This completes the recycling loop, producing new plastic products.
