Task answer
Overall, younger students are more likely to study for career-related purposes, while older individuals tend to pursue education out of personal interest. Additionally, employer support decreases with age, with the youngest group receiving the highest level of assistance.
In the first chart, career advancement is the dominant reason for studying among students under 40. The highest percentage is observed in those under 26, with approximately 80% studying for career purposes and only about 10% doing so out of interest. A similar pattern is seen in the 26–29 age group, where around 70% study for career-related reasons and just under 20% for interest. The proportion of those studying for career purposes continues to fall with age, reaching only about 18% in the over-49 group, where interest becomes the primary motivator (about 70%).
Conversely, interest becomes increasingly important with age. In the 40–49 group, the proportions studying for career and interest are nearly equal, at around 40%. For those over 49, interest is by far the leading reason, with over 70% pursuing education for personal fulfillment, compared to fewer than 20% for career.
The second chart shows a clear decline in employer support as age increases. Around 65% of students under 26 receive support from their employers, followed by just over 50% in the 26–29 category. This figure steadily drops across the subsequent age groups, hitting its lowest point of about 30% in the 40–49 bracket. However, there is a slight recovery for those over 49, with approximately 40% receiving support.
In summary, while younger learners are primarily driven by career goals and enjoy greater employer support, older students tend to study for personal interest and receive less assistance from their employers.
