Task answer

It is true that life expectancy in many countries is now higher than ever before. While elderly people could tackle some domestic problems in society, I believe those benefits cannot outweigh the effect by ageing population on government's budget. On the one hand, elder people can help youngsters with housework. Many youngsters have to dedicate huge amount of time at work in order to make money for family, so they don't have enough time to handle housework and take care of their children. To support, the elderly can clean their house, prepare meals and look after children. By this way, youths can focus on their work without concerning about housework and their children's safety. Consequently, the increasing number of elderly people can ensure family happiness by mitigate some domestic problems, such as conflicts between couples because of housework assignment or lack of caring for children. On the other hand, the ageing population can create financial liability for governments. Due to disadvantage in strength and mental health, the elderly just occupy small proportion of workforce, but they still receive pension from government. Therefore, if the number of elders increase, governments will have to allocate a larger budget for pension, while they don't get more significant contribution from these people. In addition, elderly people are more vulnerable to many diseases such as flu, diabetes, or heart attack, so they are more likely to be patients in hospitals. As a consequence, if there are more elders, the government's budget for medical will be expanded, further exacerbating the financial liability of government. In conclusion, elderly people can reduce many domestic problems by helping youngsters with housework, but those problems can also be addressed by hiring household workers or sending children to kindergartens. In contrast, the financial liability created by their pension and medical problems for governments could be detrimental for nation's economy and not easy to be tackled.
