Task answer
The diagram illustrates the stages involved in the production of sugar from sugar cane.
The procedure comprises of seven stages. Initially, sugar canes are grown. They go through several processing steps such as harvesting, crushing, purifying, evaporation, centrifuge and lastly drying and cooling which ultimately results in the production of sugar.
In the first stage, sugar canes are grown for almost 12 - 18 months. Farmers then harvest the sugar canes by particularly handpicking the ripe ones. Alternatively, machineries like tractors are involved in harvesting. These sugar canes are crushed into a juice in the following step.
In the fourth step, the juice is purified using a limestone filter. Post purification, the evaporator turns the juice into syrup by heating it rigorously. The penultimate step involves centrifuge that uses centrifugal force to separate the sugar crystals from syrup. In the final stage, these crystals are dried and cooled thereby obtaining the required product, sugar.
