Traffic congestion is a typical issue of all developed cities. There are many solutions initiated by many researches to solve this problem. In cities, people move around to work place and home at the same time, and thus during peak hours congestion likely to occur. Some of the solutions to tackle this issues are expanding road ways, implement flexible work hours, improving housing facilities for working professionals near to work place, controlling signal junction by reducing waiting time based on intensity of vehicles in specific direction, immediate response team in the case of accidents, imposing laws for regular maintenance and service for all vehicles as traffic congestion leads to air pollution. Generally, traffic congestion is due to overpopulation in the cities as working professionals relocates from countryside to cities. Thus, increases the intensity of vehicles in the roads and people tend to move around to work and home at the working hours. Then, leads to congestion at the morning and evening referred to as peak hours. To control traffic congestion due to these issues, its important to implement solutions such as, assigning flexible working hours to scatter the intensity of car at a specific time, providing accommodation facilities for employees near to work to reduce the duration of commute and it may encourage them to walk and cycling to work. Additionally, some cities like Dubai imposed tariffs to use some specific routes which can be used by people to escape from traffic. Similarly, the other problems related traffic congestion are frequent accidents, less number of routes or road lanes, impact on air pollution. These issues can be solved by the government initiatives such as, enhancing immediate responsive system with a 24 hr call center in case of any emergency or accidents as accident lead a longer congestion, AI regulated traffic signals to reduce waiting time in peak hours and introducing laws with regular vehicle maintenance and service to reduce air pollution by congestion. To conclude, traffic congestion can be reduced by measures taken by personals, organizations and government authorities to enhance functioning of major cities.
