Task answer

Information on historical buildings is becoming increasingly important to people. Many people make an effort to learn everything they can about their properties' pasts. This essay will discuss why this is of interest to owners and where they can find this information, followed by a reasoned conclusion. Firstly, people are becoming increasingly interested in the history of the building they live in to learn about the historical value and sentimental stories connected to it. Secondly, they research their homes to identify potential structural issues and repairs that have been done. For example, a young couple in America bought their first home; it was an old house and they researched its history in the local library archives. They found that the first owner was one of President Kennedy's brothers and that there was structural damage that had to be fixed, due to three natural underground water fountains that cracked the foundation. With this knowledge, they understood the significant value of the house because of the prominent family connection in the past and they knew what to budget and prepare for in the future in terms of maintenance. Furthermore, historical plans can be found at the local city planner's office or in the archives of libraries or town halls. For instance, a newly appointed principal wanted to delve deeper into the history of the 200-year-old school building in South Africa; this was found in the archives of the town hall and he could see what the school started out as, but he had to inquire about the last 50 years' plans from the office of the city architect to see the latest progress. Plans that are very old will go into the storage of prominent governmental institutions for safe-guarding, thus ensuring readily available information for new owners of older buildings and homes. In conclusion, people intend to find information on older buildings to realise the value of the properties and discover any structural issues. If individuals know the problems they are facing with their old properties, they will be able to plan for infrastructure improvements.
