Task answer

The table displays consumer expenditure data on three groups of consumer goods. The information is for the year 2002, and it is collected from five countries: Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey. Overall, the item category with the smallest percentage of spendings is leisure/education, with all nations below 5% of national expenditure. Contrastingly, Food/drinks/tobacco is the group with the highest percentage of money spent. Consumers from all five countries are reported to spend at least 2-5 times more money on food/drinks/tobacco than on clothing/footwear. Looking at each individual country, it can be identified that Turkish consumers spend approximately 3% more on food, drinks and tobacco, proportional to their national consumer expenses, compared to the second-highest spender, the Irish. At the other end of the spectrum, Swedish consumers spend less than half, percentage wise, of Turkey's consumer expenses. In the clothing/footwear category, it can be seen that Ireland, Spain and Sweden all have very similar proportions of their domestic customer expenditure, with only a 0.2% difference between the top cumulative spender, Turkey, and the lowest spender of the trio, Ireland.
