Task description

The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Task answer

The table presents data on the percentage of national consumer expenditure between three distinct categories among five different countries in the year 2002 Overall, the category with the highest expenses was food/drinks/Tobacco, with Turkey constituting the most significant proportion of all. Meanwhile, leisure and education consistently ranked the lowest among all five countries, with Spain marking the lowest and Turkey the highest. The highest expenditure was allocated to food/drinks/tobacco category, where Turkey contributed the largest proportion with 32.14%. This was followed by Ireland with 28.91%. The remaining countries each accounted for less than 20%, with Sweden having the smallest share of 15.77% across all countries. The latter categories, clothing/footwear and leisure/education, significantly dropped in figures compared to the food/drinks/tobacco group. Italy contributed the highest to clothing with 9%, while in leisure and education, Turkey took over the first position. Ireland, Spain, and Turkey accounted for approximately 6% of clothing and footware, leaving Sweden with 5.40% at last place. In contrast, Spain shared the smallest portion of leisure and education, whereas Sweden and Italy accounted for nearly 3.20% of national expense. Finally, Spain, with around 2% of consumer expenditure showed the smallest proportion across all countries in the last category.
