Task answer

In many countries, debate centres on whether having old people is beneficial or detrimental to society. The primary purpose of this composition is to elaborate the key objectives such as the culture remains intact and to justify that having elderly population are beneficial to the community. On the one hand, an ageing population can create various problems for society and the state. Firstly, governments are often required to allocate a large proportion of the national budget to healthcare and pensions, which can strain public finances. For instance, countries like Japan are already spending billions each year to provide medical care for the elderly. Secondly, a decline in the working-age population may result in labour shortages, reducing economic productivity and slowing down innovation. This situation could make it difficult for governments to maintain sustainable economic growth. On the other hand, elderly people contribute in many positive ways. To begin with, they can share valuable knowledge, traditions, and wisdom with younger generations. For example, grandparents often play an essential role in raising children, offering guidance and emotional support that parents may be unable to provide due to work commitments. Moreover, many older individuals continue to participate actively in volunteer work or part-time employment, which not only helps communities but also reduces the pressure on social welfare systems. In addition, the longevity of citizens is often a reflection of improved healthcare, nutrition, and living standards, which is a sign of overall societal progress. In conclusion, although an ageing population can present financial and economic challenges for governments, the benefits in terms of cultural continuity, family support, and social contribution are greater. Therefore, I firmly believe that the advantages of longer life expectancy outweigh the disadvantages.
