Task answer

Recently, people visit landmarks and famous attractions in order to take pictures of themselves rather than the place itself. In my opinion, this is a negative trend as a result of the technological advancements and the rise of social media. The upsurge of this issue is parallel to the technological age we now live in. Social media has made people more worried about getting interactions, boosting their accounts, and engaging with people online. Furthermore, people focus more on themselves rather than on the beauty of the place. This is also due to having more emphasis on appearance and the possibility of making someone jealous. For example, you can visit the Eiffel Tower and compare the number of people taking photos of themselves and selfies in comparison to the 1990s and 1980s. This is perceived as a negative trend because the importance and beauty of places are neglected. Tourists forget how essential such places are in history and the advancements mankind and civilizations have achieved. Even in non-historical areas, people now tend to forget to live in the moment and just care about whether they look good for an Instagram post or not. For example, watching videos of trips done previously by one's older parents will show how cameras were used to capture the moment rather than focus on individuals themselves. In conclusion, social media and technological growth have yielded negative results for people experiencing an important moment and famous attractions. Engagements on social media and how people perceive others are now the centre of attention, while neglecting the historical significance and beauty.
